"...A rustle. He quickly looked around and saw no one, but he couldn't delay his duties any longer. They would meet again, if he was lucky enough not to get drawn and quarters for consorting with the forbiddens of the kingdom. With a final kiss, he departed from his love. She remained against the pillar of the courtyard, her fingers spiraling the stem of the alkanet in her fingertips. Watching him continue on his patrol path that he was ordered, she smiled softly, a single tear escaping a blink of her eyes. Why did they have to remain so secretive? She just wished that they didn't have to remain in the darkness of night for their love to flourish. Her smile remained, though, as she knew that as oppressive as the kingdom was, a single flower could break through the darkness, illuminating a promising future..."
